SOBER: Stop - Observe - Breathe - Expand - Respond.
We are in a unique time in life that we never could have predicted. I’ve practiced with these two acronym’s for years. Our nervous system continues to respond to life from the “hunter gatherer” realm of survival.
We must “pause” to let the nervous system know “the bear is not at our front door” otherwise we can experience daily life in a highly aroused survival state.
Third acronym we can use: PAUSE
Patience
Acknowledge
Unwind
Settle
Examine
Mindfulness practice builds a process of slowing down impulsive responses that are not seeing the moment clearly. I know for myself impulse has a history to it, which has a trigger and shadow energy behind it. Mindfulness practice helps shave this impulse factor that every discomfort is life threatening. An offering of kindness and compassion becomes part of the journey.
